FAQ
Frequently asked questions
We get a lot of questions and nothing is too difficult. If your question is not answered here, talk to us and we will find the answer.
What is the NDIS?
NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme. It provides funding to eligible Australians with a permanent and significant disability so they can access the supports and services they need. As a registered NDIS provider, Australian Carers can help you access your NDIS funds. The NDIS pays us directly for the support workers we provide, so you do not have the stress of sorting out payments.
Am I eligible for the NDIS?
You may be eligible for the NDIS if you are under 65 years of age when you apply, are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category Visa holder, and meet the disability or early intervention requirements. Eligibility is determined by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). You can check your eligibility on the NDIS website, or call us and we will talk you through it.
Is Australian Carers a registered NDIS provider?
Yes. Australian Carers is a registered NDIS provider with physical offices in Sydney and Rockhampton. Our policies and procedures are audited to meet NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission standards, and we are registered for all three levels of Support Coordination, including Specialist Support Coordination.
Are your support workers employees or contractors?
All Australian Carers support workers are employees. We do not use support workers on an ABN, and we do not use outside agencies. Our staff receive ongoing training and development, including client-specific training where appropriate, and are covered by our insurances.
What happens if my regular support worker is unavailable?
Continuity of support is our highest priority. We keep a large workforce and a dedicated scheduling team so that if the unforeseen happens your supports are not interrupted. Support workers also have an after-hours number, staffed by our scheduling team, for sudden unavoidable unavailability.
Can I change my NDIS provider to Australian Carers?
Yes. Changing providers is easier than most people think. Call your nearest branch and we will explain the process, work out what supports you want from your plan and match you with the right support workers.
How do I make a complaint or give feedback?
You can give feedback, compliments or complaints directly to any staff member, by email to feedback@austcarers.com.au, or by phone to your nearest branch. Complaints are acknowledged within two working days and we aim to respond in full within 28 days. See our Feedback page for how to escalate a complaint to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
How do I apply to work with Australian Carers?
Email your resume and a short cover letter to careers@austcarers.com.au, or call your nearest branch. We welcome both experienced support workers and people new to the industry. You will need a police check, Working With Children Check, first aid certificate, driver's licence, reliable car and a mobile phone.
